I am a food and wine journalist with over 20 years of experience wandering among the most famous vineyards and cellars in Italy and the world. My passion for wine and its stories began on these trips, where I learned the secrets of the wine art directly from those who live it every day: winemakers and producers who, between a chat and a glass, shared with me their knowledge. In every sip and in every story, there is a piece of the world to discover, and I am here to bring it to you, with the curiosity of someone who continually loves to learn and the desire to talk about every new discovery.

Holiday toasts: the best wines to look for in December 2023

December has arrived, bringing with it the bitter cold and the warm, convivial holidays. As lights twinkle in homes and the streets fill with carols, there's no better time to explore some of the best wines selected for this festive season. The Decanter team have highlighted some excellent choices, both for those looking to spend under £20 and those looking to indulge in something a little more special, with prices between £20 and £50.

To start, we have **Le Colture, Fagher Prosecco Valdobbiadene Superiore Brut, Veneto, Italia NV**, a prosecco that surprises with its chiseled structure and energetic lift. Sourced from twenty-year-old vines on limestone and clay soils in San Pietro di Feletto, this prosecco features a lively aroma of pear drops, followed by a tight, minerally palate full of juicy pear with a subtle touch of peach. A pinch of pungent spices completes the long, balanced and fresh finish. With 91 points, it was described as ideal for those who don't usually appreciate Prosecco, thanks to its elegance and mineral nuances. It is perfect as a sophisticated aperitif, but also pairs well with seafood, risotto or poultry.

Another must-try is the **Lay & Wheeler, Adi Badenhorst Chenin Blanc, Swartland, South Africa 2022**. This Chenin Blanc stands out for its complexity and refinement, with aromas of beeswax and lanolin, and a palate rich in concentrated lemon peel and stone fruit. It's packed with macadamia nut, apricot kernel and grapefruit zest, with a long, spicy finish. Rated with 94 points, it is a wine notable for its intensity and structure, making it ideal for accompanying a variety of dishes.

These Decanter choices show the variety and quality that can be found in holiday wines. Whether it is a refined aperitif or a dinner companion, there is always a perfect wine for every festive occasion.
