Elegance and tradition blend harmoniously in the Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva, a historic wine from the Antinori family produced exclusively with grapes grown in the renowned Tignanello vineyard since 2011. This noble red is mainly composed of Sangiovese grapes, with a small percentage of other complementary varieties, making it an emblematic example of the quality and elegance of the Sangiovese vines in the area.
The 2020 harvest began with ideal climatic conditions: a mild, dry winter, followed by a cool spring and moderate rainfall. The hot summer, without extreme heat events, and intermittent rains provided perfect conditions for the ripening of the grapes. The harvest began around September 20th with the Sangiovese and ended on October 9th with the Cabernet Sauvignon, reaching the full phenolic maturity of the grapes.
In the winemaking process, the grapes were destemmed, gently pressed and transferred to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. Delicate pumping over and délestage techniques allowed intense extraction while maintaining elegant and soft tannins. After spontaneous malolactic fermentation, the wine was assembled and aged in French and Hungarian oak barriques for approximately one year, followed by a further twelve months of bottle refinement before marketing.
The Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 2020 has an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it expresses fresh notes of red fruit that evolve into floral hints of mallow and lavender. The rich bouquet is accentuated by sweet notes of white chocolate that flow into pungent spicy aromas. Upon tasting, the entrance is soft and enveloping, followed by elegant flavors with vibrant tannins that express the typical energy of the vineyards of origin. The finish is long, tasty and persistent, with echoes of white pepper, cocoa and flowers.
The Tenuta Tignanello vineyard, located in the heart of Chianti Classico among the gently rolling hills of the Greve and Pesa river valleys, extends over approximately 319 hectares, of which approximately 130 are dedicated to viticulture. The land, originating from marine marl from the Pliocene period and rich in limestone and shale, is home to the Tignanello and Solaia vineyards, two of the company's jewels. The rocky limestone soils, with alberese and marl, contribute to the unique characteristics of the wine.
